As Software Developer & Analyst, I interact with customers about their expected requirements of their software applications. It generally surprises every IT professional when they hear from the customer that .. “This is how we currently do manually using the paper process and we want exactly same process with absolute no change including any validation” because they expect their managers will validate information when it gets to them.
In that case the most common and respectful response is that ..
“We can validate about 90% of the information [against any business rule or data source] when your users will submit the application and it will save your managers’ time. It will also make the process very efficient. Your customers will be happier to see any data error at the time of submission on their browser than receiving an email after a week to resubmit the application because of the given issues.”
One of my colleague came up with the quote mentioned in the post title after one of our meetings where customer was insisting that their application should do exactly same as manual paper process.
